8.28.08 Update: Thanks, Regan, for reminding me of the 1000 Dachshunds recently rescued from a West Virginia puppy mill. It will be a few months before they are ready for forever homes but if you are considering adopting a Doxie this might be something to investigate. Here is an article with more information:

OMG I want that sweater but I would prefer it if the doxie was a redhead!

Please remember, there was recently a rescue of over 1000 dachshunds (mostly other small breeds mixed in) from a puppy mill in Parkersburg west Virginia. They need socialization and homes. The western PA dachshund rescue organization is working with them. Best friends animal shelter is also on it. Hit the best friends site for more information. If any of you adopt, it will save me from myself. Well...maybe not. Mom, ready for another one? Please?!?!

Thanks, Regan. I am so tempted to take one of them myself. It is totally heartbreaking.
The rescued Dachshunds won't be available for forever homes for a few months. Here is an article about the process they will go through first...
