Very sad news to report, Martha Stern, 72, the breeder of Bo Obama and Cappy Kennedy, passed away last week on July 21, 2009. No cause of death was given. Martha Stern and her husband Art Stern have been involved with breeding Portuguese Water Dogs since the 1980's when they became interested in the breed after watching the Westminster Dog Show. Their Amigo Portuguese Water Dog Kennel (pictured above) of Boyd, TX became known worldwide when they were revealed as Bo Obama's breeders.
