Name the Obama Dog: Submit Your Idea

Many readers would like to help the Obamas name their First Dog.  If you would too, submit your name ideas in the comments section below.  I might turn this into a contest if the Obamas need some help. 

The girls like the names Frank and Moose.  Michelle is not keen on either one.  I am not crazy about Moose, but I think Frank is sweet if the dog seems like a Frank.  What do you think?

Strategic Name Development, the company that named Wendy's new hamburger "The Baconator,"  offers the Obamas advice for naming the First Puppy:

Pick a politically optimistic name. Gerald Ford’s dog Liberty, Richard Nixon’s Vicky (which stands for victory), and Jimmy Carter’s Grits were on the right scent. Conversely, Rutherford B. Hayes and Calvin Coolidge may have sent the wrong signals with pets named Grim and Calamity Jane.

Make the name easy to pronounce — and spell. Lincoln’s dog was named Jip, which was often misspelled Gyp.

Tell a story with the name. The name should say something about character, history, or pedigree. Kennedy’s dog Shannon was a gift from the president of Ireland.  (full article)

Offering Odds on the First Puppy's Name

Gambling 911's Payton O'Brien reports:

'What will the Obama's name their first puppy?

George!

That is the favorite as posted by the fine folks at Paddy Power, who may have been slamming down those Guinesses once again.  The idea that the Obama's would name their puppy after George W. Bush seems sort of off the wall if you ask us.  Then again, maybe they are thinking in terms of our first President, George Washington.  After all, Washington is listed with 10-1 odds.  To make things stranger, Denzel is given 12-1 odds.

George would pay US$8 for every US$1 bet if that is the name given.

Gambling911.com believes the President Elect and his family will name their first puppy "Hope".    Paddy is not offering odds on "Hope" however.  They do have "Change" with odds of 25-1. 

How about Hillary?  Paddy Power is giving Hillary 66-1 odds.  Bill is given 33-1 odds though.    Kennedy had 25-1 odds.  Lincoln had 20-1 odds."  (full article)
